Ewing v. Stothert: Tax-Increment Financing (TIF) | Omaha Mayor Race 2025

Omaha City General Election is Tuesday, May 13th! Check your polling place here: https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov/VoterView

During the campaign season, we interviewed all the candidates for the Omaha City Mayoral race, including the two who advanced through the April primary election: Incumbent Jean Stothert (R) and Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing Jr. (D). We partnered with Flatwater Free Press and Civic Nebraska on their Voter Guide for the Omaha City Election and shared those interviews with them for wider publication. The Voter Guide can more accessed https://voterguide.flatwaterfreepress.org/

Dan asked both Mayor Stothert and John Ewing about the city’s use of tax increment financing — or TIF — a development tool that’s drawn some heat lately, both locally and at the state level. If elected, how would they approach it? Would they keep it as is, or push for changes? Here are their answers.

Why the Broadway Musical SUFFS Is More Important Than Ever

Broadway actor Marya Grandy and the Lied Center’s Executive Director Bill Stephan join the show to discuss Suffs, the Tony Award-winning musical about the women who fought for the right to vote. We explore the overlooked history behind the suffrage movement, the show’s modern political resonance, and why its message about activism, democracy, and persistence still feels urgent today.

Suffs will play May 5-10, 2026, at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, find ticket information at liedcenter.org
