Ewing v. Stothert: Street Car Project | Omaha Mayor Race 2025

Omaha City General Election is Tuesday, May 13th! Check your polling place here: https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov/VoterView

During the campaign season, we interviewed all the candidates for the Omaha City Mayoral race, including the two who advanced through the April primary election: Incumbent Jean Stothert (R) and Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing Jr. (D). We partnered with Flatwater Free Press and Civic Nebraska on their Voter Guide for the Omaha City Election and shared those interviews with them for wider publication. The Voter Guide can more accessed https://voterguide.flatwaterfreepress.org/

Dan asked both Mayor Stothert and John Ewing about the downtown-to-midtown streetcar project — construction is already underway, and it’s sparked a lot of debate. What do they think of the project and how it’s being funded? And if elected, how would they oversee it moving forward? Here are their answers.

ANTI-MONOPOLIST running for Congress in Nebraska? | Independent Austin Ahlman

Austin Ahlman, an independent candidate for Nebraska’s 1st Congressional District, joins the show to discuss his late entry into the race against Republican incumbent Mike Flood and Democratic nominee Chris Bachemeyer. Ahlman shares the personal family tragedy that motivated his campaign, explains why he believes independent candidates can break through in Nebraska politics, and outlines his views on monopolies, artificial intelligence, housing, and U.S. foreign policy. We also discuss ballot access, the growing dissatisfaction with the two-party system, and whether a new independent movement is beginning to take shape in Nebraska.
