BANNING Source-of-Income Discrimination | Lincoln for Fair Housing

Lincoln City General Election is tomorrow, May 6th! Check your polling place here: https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov/VoterView

In this episode, Dan dives into the ‘LNK for Fair Housing’ ballot initiative. On May 6, Lincoln voters will decide whether to outlaw source-of-income discrimination in city code. Currently, landlords can legally refuse prospective tenants based on how they plan to pay rent — including Section 8 housing vouchers, Social Security, veterans benefits, disability income, tips or cash wages, and informal employment. Dan speaks with Elizabeth Engman and Kasey Ogle of Collective Impact Lincoln, the group behind the initiative, to break down what’s at stake for voters.

Nebraska Lawmaker BLOCKED From Visiting ICE Prison in McCook | Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh

Nebraska State Senator Machaela Cavanaugh joins the show to discuss being twice denied entry to the ICE detention facility in McCook… despite state law granting legislators access to correctional facilities at any time. Cavanaugh outlines what happened during her attempted visit, why she believes the governor’s administration is obstructing legislative oversight, and what this means for transparency, detainee treatment, and the separation of powers in Nebraska government. She also weighs in on the fate of the former work ethic camp, prison overcrowding, and the growing tension between the legislature and the Pillen administration ahead of a difficult budget session.
