A Nebraska Father’s Plea to Gov. Pillen: “Stop Hurting Families Like Mine”

For more than 40 years, Mike Browne’s two sons have required around-the-clock care because of profound developmental disabilities and severe autism. Now, a new state assessment says they’re suddenly “less disabled.”

In this emotional message, Browne explains why he believes Nebraska’s new disability assessment system is producing results that don’t match reality—not just for his family, but for more than 700 families across the state.

He is calling on Governor Jim Pillen to pause the current assessment process, restore families to their previous level of care, and fix or replace the assessment tool before more vulnerable Nebraskans are harmed.

Browne urges viewers to sign the petition through the Disability Alliance of Nebraska and help ensure that individuals with profound disabilities receive the services they need.

Nebraska’s Broke — So Lynn Walz Picked a Farmer to Help Fix It

Nebraska’s Broke — So Lynn Walz Picked a Farmer to Help Fix It

Nebraska gubernatorial candidate Lynn Walz takes the stage in Elkhorn to announce her running mate for Lieutenant Governor: Humboldt farmer and community leader Ben Steffen. Dan was on the ground for the announcement — and caught up with both candidates afterward for a few unscripted questions on agriculture, data centers, and the rural healthcare crisis.

Steffen shares his own story — four generations on the family dairy farm, decades of local service on the school board and county planning commission, and the effort that helped save his hometown nursing home from closing. Together, the two lay out the case against the current administration’s handling of the state budget, and take questions on the issues hitting Nebraska families hardest right now.
